Most people arrive with normal results and a list of things that did not hold. One experienced practitioner reads your case and tells you where she thinks it has come from in the way you live, work and eat.

How it works

Three steps, all done from home.

You are paying for one experienced person's time on your case, from the first look to the written account. The fee is the same whether you take it live or in writing.

You send your case

Photographs of your tongue, face, hands, nails and ears, taken in daylight to a short guide we send you. Then your full history, in your own words, with no limit on length.

She reads it herself

Traditional Chinese Medicine examines a person by looking and asking, among other ways, and both work at a distance. The person who writes your reading is the one who looks at your photographs.

Live or written

Live on video, usually under ten minutes, with an English interpreter throughout, then her written account. Or written only. Within five working days.

What you come away with.

A complete reading, whether or not you ever travel. Most of it is yours to act on at home.

What the reading contains

  • What she sees in the photographs, described plainly rather than in terminology you would have to look up
  • How your body has been running: the whole picture rather than a list of complaints
  • Where she thinks this has come from in the way you live, work and eat
  • Which of your current habits are working against you
  • What she would change first, and in what order: sleep timing, warmth, food, movement, pace
  • Whether sessions in person would add anything, and honestly how much
  • A short window afterwards to come back with questions

What it leaves out

  • A medical diagnosis of any kind, or a second opinion on one you already have
  • Herbs or prescriptions: nothing is prescribed, supplied or shipped
  • Advice on starting, changing or stopping any medication
  • A verdict on whether you qualify for sessions in person: that decision is yours

Pain, taken as a history rather than a site.

Many people who come to us live with pain: back, neck, shoulders, knees, hips. She looks at it as part of the whole of you.

The Observation Reading is arranged with an independent practitioner in China. She is not part of the Baoputang team.

Her background

  • She was taught privately, over years, by one teacher: a practitioner of this same tradition who did not teach publicly and did not want his name used.
  • She has been working with clients since 2002.
  • Senior TCM doctors bring her the cases they cannot place.

Afterwards

If you want to be seen in person, that conversation starts after the reading.

The same practitioner also sees clients in person at her own practice in China. Each session is an hour, and for that hour you are the only person she is working with. Whether that is worth your time is yours to decide with the report in front of you: her estimate of days and cost is in writing before you commit, and confirmed once she has seen you.

If you go on to be seen in person, the £850 is credited in full against the cost of that work. Once the reading has been delivered, the fee is not refundable, except as set out in our terms.

    Nothing in the reading commits you to travelling, and we do not follow up to press the point.

  • Travel is booked by you

    We arrange the practitioner's time and an interpreter. Flights and accommodation are yours to book, in your own name. We can suggest places near her practice, and we take no commission on any of them.
